چکیده

In greenhouse studiesl infectivity and development of M. incoynila on tomato was impaired by increasing soil solution concentrations (ECe 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 5.0 mmhos/cm) ol NaC1, CaCI, or combinations of both salts. In two experiments, reduced inlrctivily was pronounced on a susceptible cultivar (Hunts) a t all salt concentrations, while infectivity was reduced primarily a t higher salt concentrations on a moderately resistant host (Beelmaster). Development of entrant juveniles was significantly depressed by both salts on cv. Hunts. hut merely delayed on cv. Beefmaster. Impaired infectivity and developmpnt resulted in population reduction to 2306 and 39% of controls on Reefmaster and Hunts, respectively, six u'rrks after infection.

Exogenous RNA interference exposes contrasting roles for sugar exudation in host-finding by plant pathogens.

Plant parasitic nematodes (PPN) locate host plants by following concentration gradients of root exudate chemicals in the soil. We present a simple method for RNA interference (RNAi)-induced knockdown of genes in tomato seedling roots, facilitating the study of root exudate composition, and PPN responses. Knockdown of sugar transporter genes, STP1 and STP2, in tomato seedlings triggered correspo...

Development of Multi-Component Transplant Mixes for Suppression of Meloidogyne incognita on Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum).

The effects of combinations of organic amendments, phytochemicals, and plant-growth promoting rhizobacteria on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) germination, transplant growth, and infectivity of Meloidogyne incognita were evaluated. Two phytochemicals (citral and benzaldehyde), three organic amendments (pine bark, chitin, and hemicellulose), and three bacteria (Serratia marcescens, Brevibacteri...

Effective use of marine algal products in the management of plant-parasitic nematodes.

Algal extracts were ineffective against Meloidogyne spp., Panagrellus redivivus, and Neoaplectana carpocapsae at 1.0% aqueous concentrations, with the exception of Spatoglossum schroederi. S. schroederi killed Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica, M. acrita, and Hoplolaimus galeatus at concentrations of 1.0, 0.75, and 0.50%. Extracts from S. schroederi at a concentration of 1.0% were ineffective ...

Effect of Ammonium Ions on Egg Hatching and Second-Stage Juveniles of Meloidogyne incognita in Axenic Tomato Root Culture.

Eggs, either dispersed or in masses, and second-stage juveniles (J2) of Meloidogyne incognita were exposed to different concentrations of ammonium ions in a nutrient agar medium upon which excised tomato roots were growing. Egg hatch and J2 penetration of the roots was slowed or inhibited at high (54 and 324 mg/liter) but not at low (1.5 and 9 mg/liter) concentrations of ammonium nitrate. The e...

اثر نماتد (Meloidogyne incognita race 2) روی صفات ریشه و اندام‌های هوایی دو رقم حساس و متحمل گوجه‌فرنگی

Root-knot nematodes cause physiological and anatomical disorders in plants. The present study contains the results of an investigation of the effect of Meloidogyne incognita race2 on the growth of roots and aerial organs of tomato under greenhouse conditions. The experiment in a completely randomized design split split plot on two susceptible (Falat Y) and tolerante (Gina VF) tomatoes variety w...
